Rituparna Kalita grew up in Guwahati, Assam, in a household where her maternal uncle, a practicing jyotishi, kept a worn copy of the Prashna Marga on his desk at all times. She began sitting in on his consultations as a teenager, absorbing the logic of prashna before she could fully articulate what made it different from natal astrology. At twenty-six she formalized her study under a Kerala-lineage teacher based in Bengaluru who trained her rigorously in classical prashna methods drawn from the Prashna Marga and Prashna Tantra texts.
