Pandit Devidas Semwal

Pandit Devidas Semwal was born and raised on the banks of the Ganga in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, where the study of shastra was as ordinary as morning prayer. He received his foundational training under a senior teacher of the Kalikamliwala tradition, a lineage that takes the Jaimini Sutras as living instruction, not archival text. By his early thirties he had completed advanced study at the Sampurnanand Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya in Varanasi, where he focused specifically on Upadesa Sutras and their commentary traditions, returning always to Haridwar to practice among the pilgrims and families who sought him out at the ghats.

Devidas reads exclusively through the Jaimini framework, Chara Karakas, Arudha Padas, Rashi Dashas, and the Navamsha as a life-map rather than a supplement. He does not blend Parashari and Jaimini carelessly; he holds them as two distinct grammars and chooses the one appropriate to the question. He will not give you a prediction dressed as certainty, his phrase is, "the chart shows tendencies, dharma shows choices." He also consults on Vastu corrections and sees the home as a second horoscope, a spatial birth chart that either supports or disturbs the planetary indications a person carries.

Most of those who come to Devidas are facing what he calls "direction questions", which career path, which city, when to marry, whether to reconcile or release a relationship. His clients leave not with a timetable but with a framework: which Chara Karaka is being activated, which Arudha is distorted, and what ritual or spatial correction, sometimes as small as repositioning a doorway, might ease the friction they are feeling.
