Suvankar Chowdhury

Suvankar Chowdhury grew up in North Kolkata's Shyambazar neighbourhood, where his maternal grandfather, a retired schoolteacher and amateur Jyotishi, kept a worn copy of Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra on the same shelf as Tagore's Gitanjali. It was there, between the smell of mustard oil and afternoon rain, that Suvankar first learned to trace the bones of a face and match them to a sidereal birth chart. He later deepened his practice under a senior teacher of the Samkhya-inflected Uttara Bharatiya school, spending two years studying physiognomical correspondence in classical Sanskrit texts.

Suvankar reads faces as living charts, the arch of the brow, the set of the jaw, the shape of the philtrum each carrying planetary imprints that a birth chart confirms or complicates. He works exclusively with the sidereal zodiac, refusing to convert to tropical, because he believes the fixed-star backbone is what keeps a reading honest. He will not reduce a person to a single prediction. Instead he describes what he sees, in the face, in the chart, in the space between them, and lets the person decide what to do with that image.
