Shirish Godbole grew up in Pune, Maharashtra, in a household where palmistry was not a parlour trick but a serious discipline. His grandfather, a practitioner of the Pune school of Hasta Samudrika Shastra, read hands for decades at the Dagdusheth Halwai temple precinct, and Shirish sat beside him from the age of twelve, memorising the Sanskrit shlokas that classify mount formations and line depth. Formal training followed under a Nashik teacher, where he spent three years studying Lal Kitab alongside traditional Hasta Vidya, learning how remedial measures from one system can be mapped onto the physical markers visible in another.

Shirish approaches a palm the way a radiologist approaches an X-ray, methodically, quadrant by quadrant, cross-referencing the life line with the fate line before uttering a single word of interpretation. He grounds every reading in Samudrika Shastra's classical taxonomy, citing which text a given observation comes from rather than speaking in impressionistic terms.
