Meenakshi Rastogi was born and raised in Lucknow, in a household where her nani kept a tattered Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra beside the kitchen shelf like a cookbook. She began sitting in on readings with a family elder in Varanasi, a working pandit himself, at age fourteen, and spent her early twenties formally studying Parashari Jyotish at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Delhi.
