Pandit Devendra Bhatnagar was born into a family of Sanskrit scholars in Mathura, where his grandfather, a practicing Jyotishi who had studied under the Varanasi Kashi Vidvat Parishad, first placed an ephemeris in his hands at the age of eleven. Devendra went on to formally study at the Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha in New Delhi, completing an advanced course in Jyotish Shastra alongside his degree in Sanskrit. His numerological training came later, through correspondence with a Pune-based Ankavidya practitioner whose roots traced to the Chaldean school filtered through Indian classical arithmetic.

Devendra reads charts the way a geologist reads rock strata, slowly, in sequence, with great respect for what each layer reveals about the next.
